it can mean they are lesbian, but not always. i remember i used to know this lesbian and she had super short razored hair and wore flannel and jeans. people used to ask if she was in the military. i used to think she was trying too hard to look gay. and as it turned out maybe she was considering she had a significant past with men. she had been married, twice, to two different guys and had only come out when she was in her late 20s. she could never get a date though and bragged about having one night stands constantly. personally, i didn't appreciate the kind of performance she put on. i am a gay woman myself, so i know a few things about this sort of thing.

women go butch for many reasons. some just are. some want to look that way. some are and don't really realize it. i certainly used to look extremely butch. i did the men's clothes and the buzz cut thing. never worked for me really. how can you run a business and climb the corporate ladder like that? you, can't really, so i tamed my image and i look better this way. i also get more dates. i might cut my hair shorter again though. i think it doesn't really matter as long as you are smart-looking, neat, tidy and professional. there is room in that equation for a more butchier look. just don't be naive and think other people are not judging you for it.

I have very short hair because I prefer it that way, it's easier to deal with for a start. I don't wear "men's" clothes, but I don't wear dresses or skirts either. I dress this way for comfort and practicality.

It tells absolutely nothing. I prefer my hair short and spunky because its easier to handle and take care of. I also love wearing comfortable clothes like baggy shirts and skater boy tennis shoes because its quick and easy. It doesn't make me any less feminine to do these things, and if you are insinuating women like this are lesbians or something that's not true. I think you have a stereotypical idea of what women should look like, when in reality women come in all sorts of packaging.
